Hornets suspend LaMelo Ball for rest of season.

This isn't surprising; what's the point of his returning to an 18-54 team? But now it's official:

The Charlotte Hornets have suspended LaMelo Ball for the remainder of the season.

Ball has been out since three days after Thanksgiving, when he injured his ankle against the Magic when falling awkwardly after a shot over Paolo Banchero.

This is the same right ankle Ball had surgery on near the end of the previous season.

Ball was playing some of his greatest basketball of his career when he suffered the injury, averaging 25.9 points and 8.6 assists per game while shooting 38.9% from three.

Injuries have cut three of Ball's four NBA seasons short, and he has only played 58 games in the last two seasons.

That has sparked talk throughout the league that Charlotte's new executive office, led by Jeff Peterson, may try to trade for Ball.

However, given Ball's injury history and the fact that he is on a max contract that begins next season, suitors are unlikely to line up to pay Charlotte's asking price for the form
