Yankees’ DJ LeMahieu a ‘long shot’ for Opening Day with Anthony Rizzo nearing return

"DJ's still not there," Boone stated before the Yankees faced Diablos Rojos del Mexico at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú. "I did some more stuff today, although I'm still sore from it.

"He's certainly a longer shot for Opening Day, but we'll see. As the days pass, it all relies on how much he improves each day."When asked if LeMahieu might play on the disabled li

"If it's only a couple of days [he would miss], then maybe not," said Boone. "Obviously don't have to make that decision for a few more days still." 

If an IL stint is required, the Yankees may push it back three days, allowing LeMahieu to return in time for their home opener on April 5.

In that event, Oswaldo Cabrera would most likely be the Yankees' starting third baseman on Opening Day against the Astros.
